Slow-Cooker Stew

slow-cooker stew in a bowl with dipping bread

As a kid one of the best days of the week is coming home to the smell of grandmas slow-cooker stew. Now that I'm no longer a kid I gotta make it myself, but it so rewarding. Heres my twist on grandmas recipe.

  • 1 lb bone-less beef, cubed
  • 1/2 lb bone-in beef, cubed
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 1/2 cups broth
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1/2 medium turnip, cubed
  • 2-3 potatoes, peeled & cubed

  1. Start with cubing your meat (if brought pre-cubed depending on size might wanna make smaller) and vegetables.
  2. Add meat to slow cooker with only a tablespoon of broth (you can use any broth).
  3. Sprinkle meat with cornstarch and seasoning, mix/toss well.
  4. Add remaining broth to slow cooker, then vegetables, toss well.
  5. Set slow cooker for 6-8 hours on low or 2-3 hours on high (low well get more flavour)
  6. Serve with a bread/bun of choice for dipping (try my buttermilk biscuits).
