Molasses Cookies

Molasses cookies stacked and on a cooling rack.

Old style molasses cookies are my favourite, but sometimes it fun to take something you love, and give it a twist. This recipe is a twist on Glen & Friends Cooking and Jennifer Meyering recipes. The cookies turn out perfect, except I thought there be a stronger molasses flavour, so next time I experiment with these I might do some more molasses. Otherwise delish.

  • 1 cup margarine or butter
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2/3 cup non-alcoholic beer
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 cup raisins

  1. Cream together the butter, sour cream, and sugar until smooth.
  2. Once smooth beat in each egg yolk one at a time.
  3. Lastly beat in the molasses and beer.
  4. In another bowl which together flour, corn starch, baking soda+powder, oat, cinnamon, and ginger.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture into the wet mixture, once almost mixed add the raisins.
  6. Let sit in the fridge covered for a least 30 mins before scooping.
  7. Preheat the over to approx. 375F and line a baking sheet.
  8. Using desire size scoop (mine is little bigger than 1 tablespoon), scoop onto sheet and flatten with back of spoon.
  9. Cook for about 15-20 minutes (lightly golden on top).
